Experience

Hello! My name is Brittany and I am an artist and reading/writing/English tutor to multi-grade level students in the East Bay area and San Leandro. I graduated in 2011 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and recently moved to the Bay area during the fall of 2012. As an English/Reading/Writing/ SAT/ACT tutor: I am friendly, patient, encouraging, and love to help others. I adapt my lessons to each student's learning style, and make sure to integrate their individual interests. I have worked with ages K-12, and have a lot of experience helping Spanish and Arabic English language learners in particular. In addition to my experience as a tutor, I have also worked with kids as an art teacher and after school kindergarten teacher. I love coming up with creative ideas to make the process of learning fun and easy! As an art teacher I will improve your technical skills, and help encourage you to think critically and conceptually about your work. I aim to help students' master oil painting techniques (traditional and otherwise), acrylic painting, watercolor painting, drawing, and dry media and become fluent in rendering the figure and drawing from observation. I believe self-expression is integral to one's well being and that visual art fortifies one's ability to problem solve and derive meaning from the world. About Me/My work as an artist: My work has been exhibited in The Gene Siskel Film Center, Betty Rymer Gallery, Sullivan Gallery, and the Fine Arts Building in Chicago, and also featured on Jezebel and Hyperallergic online. Upon acceptance to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I was granted their Merit and Enrichment Scholarship and during my time as a student I was juried into their upper-division painting program, Advanced Painting. As a senior in high school, I was awarded the Congressional Art Award, for which my work was hung in the Capitol Building, and I received a $3,000 Scholarship to Savannah College of Art and Design.
